My Voice Went Soft

In My Voice Went Soft, Louise te Poele gives form to a voice that refuses to be silenced, even as it softens. The work grew from her studio practice of building still lifes from objects that don't obviously belong together: heritage pieces alongside fruit, branches, a trace of glitter. Their meanings shift in proximity, opening a space that resists easy explanation.

True to her method, the image is not built toward beauty but through it. Colour and abundance draw the eye in, only to unsettle it a quiet resistance disguised as celebration. What lingers is not a statement, but a presence: soft, insistent, and impossible to talk over.
